How are you holding up on your New Year’s resolutions? Research shows that only around 8% of people who make New Year’s resolutions will stick to them, and you should be one of those people!

By far one of the most common resolutions is to get in shape and be healthy. One part of doing this is to lose fat, a struggle that many people on the journey to living healthy face.

According to lifestyle expert Jim Karas, losing fat is all about the muscle.

“The truth is, strength training makes women shrink. You actually become denser and leaner because those long, lean, calorie-burning muscles help you burn all that fat around the muscle,” Karas said.

The lesson here is don’t stress if you can’t fit cardio into your daily schedule, and instead try doing moves to build strength, like a plank or some pushups. But, another important factor in the fight against fat is to watch what you eat.

Karas advises that eating protein and carbs after a workout is crucial to rebuilding muscle that was torn during the strength training. Without protein and carbs, muscles cannot gain mass, and therefore you won’t see the fat-burning effects.
