The match against the U.S. national soccer team ended in a 1-0 defeat for Canada, a match that the team believes they can improve upon and learn from in the future.

Midfielder Will Johnson spoke with MLSsoccer.com after the game saying, “This was our first game for everybody this year. We had 10, 11 days of training and the first couple days were rough, guys touching the ball for the first time this year. So to end up with the game tonight, I thought we made great strides over the course of the camp.”

Canada’s head coach, Benito Floro, believed the team started off strong and then faded fast within the 90-minute match, saying “First half, we kept up with the balance. The USA had a very good balance as far as tactical movement; they moved the ball very well. Second half, the fitness level wasn’t there… and they had more opportunities for goal.”

Johnson agrees with his coach, and also admits that the team will need to improve on their fitness in order to stay competitive in the future. The team has to make changes quickly in order to be ready for the World Cup qualifying match they face in March against Mexico.
